The ADDIE Instructional Design Model for our LMS product -ProLMS
We have adopted ADDIE Instructional Design Model to ensure that courses are developed effectively using various instructional tools or models to achieve the goals of instruction.
The ADDIE model is a systematic instructional design model consisting of five phases:
This phase aims to define the project’s needs and the existing constraints. Its main purpose is to identify the learning problem, the goals and objectives, the audience’s needs, existing knowledge and skills. Below are some of the questions that are addressed during the analysis phase:
Who is the intended audience?
What are their skills and characteristics?
What types of constraints exist?
What are the delivery options?
What are the online considerations?
What is the timeline for project completion?
The design phase concerns the writing learning objectives, creating assessment instruments, developing exercises, building content, analyzing subject matter, planning lessons and selecting media. The design phase should be logical, orderly method of identifying, developing, and evaluating a set of planned strategies targeted for attaining the project’s goals. During the instructional design phase, the training specialist reviews the course's learning objectives and considers the following points:
Planning of project’s instructional, visual and technical design strategy.
Apply instructional strategies according to the intended behavioral outcomes by domain (cognitive, affective, and psychomotor).
Design the user interface and user experience.
Apply visual design.
The development phase deals with the process of authoring and producing the materials according to specifications derived during the design phase. It includes development of instruction, all the media that will be used in the instruction, and any supporting documentation. Here is an example of the process to be conducted during the development phase:
List down activities that will help students learn the task.
Select the delivery method.
Review existing material so that you do not reinvent the wheel.
Develop the instructional courseware.
Synthesize the courseware into a viable training program.
Validate the instruction to ensure it accomplishes all goals and objectives.
During the implementation phase, a procedure for training the facilitators and the learners is developed. It is essential to ensure that the course is delivered effectively to the target audience. Here following points to be taken into consideration.
Training should cover the course curriculum, learning outcomes, method of delivery, and testing procedure.
Equip the learners on new tools (software or hardware).
This is the phase where the project manager takes care that the books, hands on equipment, tools, CD-ROMs and software are in place, and that the learning application or website is functional.
This phase deals with the assessment of the course from all phases to measure how well the project has reached its goals. This phase is necessary to provide opportunities for feedback from the users, as a reference for the next implementation.
Review and evaluate each phase to ensure accomplishment.
Perform external evaluations.
Revise training system to make it better.
